Penalty units
Penalties imposed for breaches of the Water Act 1989 or Wannon Water's By-Laws, such as the Water Restrictions By-Law, are linked to the value of a Penalty Unit. The value is indexed on 1 July each year with a Penalty Unit being worth $192.31 for 2023/24.
As an example, the penalty for breaching Stage 1 Water Restrictions is 2 Penalty Units for a first offence - this equates to a penalty of $385.00, noting that the penalty is rounded to the nearest dollar.
