Wannon Water is committed to sustainability and recognises that its actions as a business influence current and future generations. Our vision is to deliver sustainable water services for regional prosperity. In addition, Wannon Water’s mission is to provide water and sewerage services in an efficient, timely, reliable and sustainable manner in order to meet the needs of the communities of South West Victoria.
Sustainability as a term has a range of meanings to different people. To effectively deliver on our Vision and Mission, Wannon Water has defined sustainability as the balance of governance, economic, environmental, and social factors in the delivery of business operations.
This section of our web site provides an overview of Wannon Water’s Sustainability journey to date, and provides details of the various programs currently underway. Key documents are available for download, and links to these and other relevant sections of our web site are included within the relevant sections.
Sustainability Policy and Strategy
Guiding our sustainability journey is Wannon Water’s Sustainability Policy. The Board of Wannon Water regularly review and improve this Policy, ensuring it remains dynamic and facilitates delivery of sustainability improvements.
The main elements of Wannon Water’s Sustainability Policy are:
• Progressing (or growing) as a sustainable business
• Engendering good governance principles, committing to external initiatives and engaging regional stakeholders
• Enhancing business performance with the aim of sustaining long term economic growth
• Improving environmental performance: and
• Improving performance of social considerations
Implementation of Wannon Water’s Sustainability Policy is supported by a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy coordinated by the Innovation and Sustainability Department with responsibility to Executive Management. Wannon Water’s Sustainability Strategy identifies six Aims for business improvement, and the following flow chart provides an overview of these.

Premier’s Sustainability Awards 2010
Wannon Water is proud to have been selected as a finalist in the State Government Award category of the 2010 Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards. The category recognises the development and implementation of environmentally sustainable programs and initiatives by a state government body.
Wannon Water’s application tells of the Corporation’s ‘sustainability journey’ and highlights achievements that demonstrate Government leadership in environmental performance in regional Victoria.
From an initial Sustainability Policy in February 2008, Wannon Water has voluntarily gone “beyond compliance” to protect and improve the Victorian environment.
Wannon Water’s application highlighted that transforming organisational culture and decision making processes and securing financial allocations have been critical to commencing an effective sustainability journey. A full copy of the application, including key achievements at a business level and practical initiatives that demonstrate on-ground leadership in environmental sustainability, is available for download.
