Wannon Water recognised in industry-wide performance report

14 January 2016

Wannon Water has been recognised for its strong service performance in the recently released 2014/15 Water Performance Report of Victorian urban water and sewerage businesses.

The Essential Services Commission (ESC) report benchmarks the 17 Victorian water corporations’ performance in water use, price trends, payment management, service levels, network reliability, drinking water quality, environmental impacts and capital works.

Managing Director Andrew Jeffers said it was very pleasing to receive confirmation that Wannon Water is excelling in many areas of service compared to other water corporations.

“In its report summary, the ESC specifically noted that Wannon Water was among the best performers in a number of key areas, which reflects the hard work I see displayed every day to continually improve the services we provide for our community,” Mr Jeffers said.

“The benchmarking showed Wannon Water has maintained its previous strengths, including being named the best performer for water supply interruptions for the 7th year in a row.

“At the same time we’ve made great strides in other key areas, such as registering our lowest recorded water quality complaint rate – the third lowest of all water corporations.

“And to achieve this while delivering price reductions for our customers is an especially pleasing result.

“The average quarterly Wannon Water residential bill has now fallen to $275, which compares favourably with other Victorian water corporations for this indicator.”

Key results for Wannon Water include:

  • Recording the lowest rate of water supply interruptions for the 7th year in a row and the shortest average customer minutes off supply (6 minutes per customer for the year)
  • An 88% reduction in planned interruptions (less than 1 per 100 customers)
  • Increased numbers of hardship grants and utility relief grants provided to assist customers experiencing payment difficulties
  • Ranking equal first for the number of customer calls answered within 30 seconds (99%+ for the 6th year in a row), and first in the overall greeting quality score
  • Recording its lowest water quality complaint rate, and third lowest of all corporations
  • The largest increase in effluent reuse, up from 12% in 2013/14 to 20% in 2014/15.

“Wannon Water will now analyse the Water Performance Report data in greater detail to identify further performance improvements for the future,” Mr Jeffers said.
