Dennington water main works begin

14 May 2018

Wannon Water will begin work to replace a one-kilometre section of water main along a major route in Dennington.

The $430,000 project involves the replacement of the main pipeline along Drummond Street between Harrington Road and Tylden Street. The pipe supplies water to nearly 50 properties, including Fonterra’s Dennington factory.

Wannon Water asset creation engineer Rhyce Milward said the replacement of the existing water main is essential to maintain efficient and reliable services for customers.

Contactor Molan Plumbing and Civil has been awarded the tender for the project which is expected to take about six months to complete. Work will take place from Monday to Friday and possibly on some Saturdays if required.

“The water main replacement involves the need to dig across the road and at intersections, as well as bore below the railway line,” Mr Milward said.

“We’re working with our contractors with the aim of minimising interruptions to the water supply and disruptions to traffic during the project.

“We do not anticipate there will be a need for road closures. The majority of works will be constructed under traffic control, allowing vehicles to move past the site. However, on occasion, local residents may experience some delays.
