Traffic detours in Koroit for essential work

09 October 2020

Wannon Water will be replacing the water main that runs along Koroit’s main street over the next few months.

Project manager Nathan Harders said a 650-metre section of pipe would be replaced along the southern side of Commercial Road between High Street and Spring Street.

“The work is part of our ongoing commitment to provide safe drinking water to customers,” Mr Harders said. “The existing pipes are old and need to be replaced to ensure the reliability of the network into the future.

“We’ve proactively timed this work so it takes place in advance of future projects proposed by Regional Roads Victoria and Moyne Shire. This will avoid the need to disturb any new pavement surfaces or recently completed landscaping features.”

The project will take place in two stages. Stage one, from High Street to Spring Street, will be completed prior to Christmas, while the second stage, from Spring Street to approximately 240 metres further west, will take place after the holiday period.

Mr Harders said water supply interruptions for the majority of properties would be minimised with the use of a temporary above-ground pipe.

However, the work will involve the closure of part of the west-bound carriageway as excavation takes place along that side of the street.

“This will involve some traffic disruptions and detours, but we’ll be doing our best to minimise the inconvenience for businesses and their customers,” Mr Harders said.

Through traffic will be detoured into High Street, Lake View Road, O’Briens Lane and Koroit-Port Fairy Road before rejoining the main street. This is the same route used when the street is closed for the Koroit Irish Festival.

Mr Harders urged people travelling through the town during this period to be patient, follow the sign-posted directions and allow extra travel time.
