Koroit Water Main Replacement Project

Koroit water main replacement project

Update - February 2021

Our contractor CriTech will be resuming work on replacing the old water main along Commercial Road in Koroit.

After stopping work during the summer holiday period, the project will recommence on Wednesday 3 February. A new pipe will be laid from Commercial Place to approximately 250 metres west of Spring Street with the project expected to be completed by the end of March.

The work will involve the closure of part of the west-bound carriageway as excavation takes place along that side of the street. This will involve some traffic disruptions and detours, but we’ll be doing our best to minimise the inconvenience for businesses and their customers.

Through traffic will be detoured into High Street, Lake View Road, O’Briens Lane and Koroit-Port Fairy Road before rejoining the main street. We're urging people travelling through the town during this period to be patient, follow the sign-posted directions and allow extra travel time.

Once again, we thank everyone for their patience.

Update - December 2020

We’d like to give a big shout out to the Koroit community for your patience over the past few weeks as our contractor CriTech worked on the replacement of the old water main along Commercial Road. Progress to date has been excellent and the project is ahead of schedule.

We originally planned to have the section of main up to Spring Street completed before Christmas as part of stage one. The plan was to return and start stage two in February - after the summer holiday break.

However, we are aware that Regional Roads Victoria are soon planning to undertake some drainage works in the main street. To avoid even more impacts to the community, we thought this was an appropriate time to postpone the remainder of stage one, pack up at the end of the week, and recommence in February.

Working along a busy main street is never easy so we’d also like to acknowledge the efforts of CriTech in keeping everyone safe and ensuring we can continue to provide a reliable water supply for the future.

Project details - October 2020

We'll be replacing the water main that runs along Koroit’s main street in a project that will run from October 2020 to March 2021.

A 650-metre section of pipe is being replaced along the southern side of Commercial Road between High Street and Spring Street.

The work is part of our ongoing commitment to provide safe drinking water to customers. The existing pipe is old and needs to be replaced to ensure the reliability of the network well into the future.

We’ve proactively timed this work so it takes place in advance of future projects proposed by Regional Roads Victoria and Moyne Shire. This will avoid the need to disturb any new pavement surfaces or recently completed landscaping features.

The project will take place in two stages. Stage one, from High Street to Spring Street, will be completed prior to Christmas, while the second stage, from Spring Street to approximately 240 metres further west, will take place after the holiday period.

Water supply interruptions for the majority of properties will be minimised with the use of a temporary above-ground pipe.

However, the work will involve the closure of part of the west-bound carriageway as excavation takes place along that side of the street.

This is the same route used when the street is closed for the Koroit Irish Festival.

We're urging people travelling through the town during this period to be patient, follow the sign-posted directions and allow extra travel time.

Further details and the detour route is available in this Information Sheet.
