How to check for leaks

Water meters are generally located near a property’s front boundary. They may be below ground level and covered with a metal or plastic lid.

Make sure that your water meter is free of obstructions such as overgrown bushes to allow easy access for reading and maintenance.

You can use your water meter to check leaks. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Turn off all water appliances but leave the meter’s stop tap on.
  2. Read your water meter and write down the numbers.
  3. Wait for an hour, making sure you don’t use any water.
  4. Once the hour is up, read your meter again.
  5. If the two readings are different, you may have a leak. Call a licensed plumber to investigate.
